Investor Redressal and Arbitration (IRRA) Platform
GS- III >> Economy>> Capital Market
Context: Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has launched the safety net for investors and trader’s platform, IRRA.
About Investor Redressal and Arbitration (IRRA) Platform:
- The IRRA platform is a collaborative effort involving all major stock exchanges, including the Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India.
- It functions as a protective measure for investors in case a trading member or SEBI-registered stockbroker faces technological glitches, aiming to act as a ‘safety net’ for investors.
- Its primary objective is to reduce risks for market participants by facilitating the cancellation of pending orders, rather than initiating new positions or orders.
- While accessible to trading members supporting internet-based and wireless technology for investors, the platform excludes algo trading and institutional clients.
- Investors can access the IRRA platform through a new mobile application and web URL designed for Internet-based trading (IBT).

Radio Galaxy
GS- III >> Science & Technology >> Space
Context: Recently, first discovery of dozens of new giant radio galaxies.
About Radio Galaxy:
- Radio Galaxies, also known as radio-luminous galaxies or radio-loud galaxies, are a particular type of active galaxy that emits more light at radio wavelengths than at visible wavelengths.
- These happen through the interaction between charged particles and strong magnetic fields related to supermassive black holes at the galaxies’ centre.
- Radio galaxies are driven by non-thermal emissions.
- They are much bigger than most of the other galaxies in the universe.
- The first radio galaxy to be discovered, and still the brightest, is called Cygnus A.
- There are two broad classes of radio galaxies:
- Lobed radio galaxies:
- They display great lobes of radio emission extending, in some cases, for millions of light years beyond the optical part of the galaxy.
- Some radio galaxies have a single lobe, but more often, the lobes are double, arrayed on both sides of the optical galaxy.
- Core-halo radio galaxies:
- They exhibit radio emission from a region concentrated around the nucleus of the galaxy.
- The region of radio emission is comparable in size to the optically visible galaxy.

Picocystis Salinarum
GS- III >> Environment >> Flora & Fauna
Context: Recently, a young researcher has divulged the secret of how the Picocystis Salinarum survives the harshest of conditions by resorting to physiological adaptation to highly saline-alkaline/hyperosmotic conditions.
About Picocystis Salinarum:
- It is a globally widespread picoplanktonic green algae of saline lakes.
- It is one of the smallest green algae.
- It is found in hypersaline soda lake Sambhar, Rajasthan, to survive extreme environments. Though the algae had been widely found in saline-soda lakes around the world, it was spotted for the first time in India only in the Sambhar Lake.
- The unique organism apparently enhances photosynthesis and ATP synthesis along with chaperone proteins as key response to high salinity-alkalinity.
- Enhanced photosynthetic activity exhibited by P. salinarum in highly saline-alkaline condition is noteworthy as photosynthesis is suppressed under hyperosmotic conditions in most photosynthetic organisms.

Sangai Deer and Loktak Lake
GS- III >> Environment >> Biodiversity
Context: Manipur Government raised concern that Loktak Lake’s hydroelectric plan may affect Sangai deer.
About Sangai Deer:
- Keibul Lamjao National Park last natural habitat of Sangai Deer.
- IUCN Status: Endangered
- Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972: Schedule I
About Loktak Lake:
- It is the largest freshwater lake in North–East India and is famous for Phumdis (floating circular swamps).
Loktak lake is Ramsar site.
