Hydrogen for Heritage Scheme

Context: India proposed to invite global firms to manufacture Hydrogen trains for implementing the Hydrogen for heritage scheme.
About Hydrogen for Heritage Scheme:
- It was announced in the Union Budget 2023-24.
- Under it, Indian Railways (IR) has envisaged to run 35 Hydrogen trains.
- Also, IR will undertake retro fitment of Hydrogen Fuel cell on existing Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU).
- Hydrogen fuel cells use the chemical energy of hydrogen to produce electricity.
- Benefits: It will promote green transportation technology that will support zero carbon emission goals.

INS Trinket

Context: The Navy has appointed its first woman commanding officer, in line with the philosophy of ‘all roles-all ranks’ to deploy women in diverse roles.
- The officer Shaliza Dhami, a Lieutenant Commander, is set to command INS Trinkat, marking the first instance of a woman assuming command of a naval ship.
About INS Trinkat:
- Design and construction: INS Trinkat, a patrol vessel of the Indian Navy, was designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers in Kolkata, West Bengal.
- The officer, a qualified navigation instructor, has experience in training observers and served as the first woman officer in the Navy’s Tupolev Tu-142 maritime patrol aircraft.
- Operational roles: The vessel undertakes fisheries protection, anti-poaching, counter-insurgency, and search-and- rescue operations in coastal areas and the exclusive economic zone.
- Class naming convention: It is part of a class of vessels named after Trinkat Island, one of the Nicobar Islands, located in the northeast Indian Ocean between the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea.

Exercise Milan

Context: The Indian Navy is gearing up to host its largest multilateral exercise early next year 2024.
About Exercise Milan:
- The next edition of Exercise Milan is scheduled for February 2024.
- It is expected to see the participation of over 50 countries.
- This reflects the significant expansion of the Navy’s engagements as well as capacity to assist countries in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) as the first responder and Preferred Security Partner.
- Exercise Milan is a biennial multilateral naval exercise.
- It began in 1995, and has since significantly expanded in scope and scale to become the largest exercise held by India.
